2. Entry requirements

The equivalent of English B. Bachelor's degree in Science, Social Sciences or Medicine

3. Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student is able to
  • analyse biological processes that regulate the spread and emergence of infectious diseases
  • categorise important infectious diseases according to the type of biological agent, spreading mechanism and disease progression
  • give examples of how infectious diseases are controlled, diagnosed and treated on the basis of health conditions at different geographical scales
  • distinguish future risks for changes in the prevalence and distribution of infectious diseases in relation to local and global changes in the environment and climate
  • distinguish future risks for the evolution of new infectious diseases in relation to local and global changes in environment and climate
  • critically evaluate and present scientific literature.

  • 4. Course content, modules and examinations

    The course deals with biological mechanisms behind significant infectious diseases and focuses on control, diagnostics and treatment with both national and international perspectives. In addition, local and global changes in the environment and climate are linked to the risk of increased distribution, prevalence and evolution of infectious diseases.

    5. Course design

    The course consists of lectures, mandatory seminars and study visits.

    6. Examination format

    The course is assessed by written examination and by oral and written assignments.
     The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.

    If there are changes in the reading list between semesters, a new list for the next semester is to be validated no later than July 15 and December 15 respectively.
